Keeping Bogotá Healthy through COVID-19 and Beyond
MIGA issued a guarantee on a COP 1 trillion (approx. US$254 million) loan to the Capital District of Bogotá for up to seven years. The guarantee provided to BBVA will help finance the improvement and expansion of public hospitals, labs and clinics, and the purchase of over 100 ambulances.
Supporting Agriculture in the Palestinian Territories
MIGA's $16.61 million in guarantees will cover equity investments in Nakheel Palestine for Agricultural Investment against the risks of expropriation and war and civil disturbance, including temporary loss of income, for a period of up 5.5 years. Başakşehir Çam & Sakura City Hospital
Başakşehir Çam & Sakura City Hospital is a public-private partnership among Sojitz Corp. of Japan and Rönesans Holding, the leading Turkish construction-and-investment company. The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) helped launch the project by insuring Sojitz’s $144 million equity investment in the hospital for 20 years against breach of contract, restriction on transfer of capital, and expropriation.
Caja de Ahorros-Supported Housing Projects
In July 2020, MIGA issued guarantees that will help grow the low-income housing portfolio of Caja de Ahorros (CA). CA was established by the Government of Panama in 1934 with a social mission to encourage good savings habits, offer financial education programs, and contribute to solving the country’s housing deficit by providing mortgages.

2020 MIGA Gender CEO Award
Ms. Aïssata S. Béavogui, Director General at Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), is the recipient of this year’s MIGA Gender CEO Award. She oversees the implementation and strategy for sustainable development in the largest greenfield investment in Guinea, providing a leading example of how the mining industry can operate throughout the region.
Supporting Women Entrepreneurs in Senegal
MIGA’s support for the 158.8-megawatt Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye wind farm will provide 450,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year to 2 million people and help avoid over 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. Equally important, the environmental and social performance commitments of the project include empowering women in local communities.
The Azito Attiéké Cooperative
The Azito Attiéké Cooperative, supported by the MIGA-backed 430MW Azito Thermal Power Plant, is helping over one hundred local women entrepreneurs produce, sell and export attiéké, a cassava-based dish from Côte d’Ivoire. The owner of the power plant, Azito Energie, and the operator, Azito Operations and Management, are providing the cooperative with training, facilities and equipment to process and package cassava pulp.
